Mother’s Day 2014

While I didn’t spend this Mother’s Day with the kids as planned, I was in Montreal with Tim.  I had elected to have LASIK done in Canada and haven’t regretted it.  We went up for a long weekend and because of a fairly rare complication, I had to stay one more day. Really nothing major, just a little folding of the cornea.  Totally annoying, but it happens.  Overall, the surgery went smashing and I can see without glasses or contacts.  The first few weeks were difficult as one eye was slightly blurrier than the other, but when you’re 10-20, that’s going to happen.  Plus, the eyes are still healing.  (update: I’m one month out and the eyes are doing well!.  A rather unique Mother's Day adventure.  

Spring is in the air!

This past winter was long. Loooooooong.  We finally had a nice, sunny day and invited friends to meet at Kettle Cove for a picnic.  Abby and Sam enjoyed playing friends from day care and  friend from Mommy’s group of Mommy friends! The kids collected treasures and the big kids had treats on the picnic blanket.

Abby’s new Office

Abby’s imagination is soaring!  She is enjoying her new office space and we are delighting in the creations made with coloring utensils, staplers, pipe cleaners, pencils, and her new electric pencil sharpener the Easter Bunny brought.  

 

Happy Easter!

We celebrated Easter in Maine this year even though we were plagued with sickness.  Tim went to family birthday dinner while I stayed home with the Sam.  Abby and I went to dinner with family.  The kids had a blast searching for their eggs and sneaking in candy when we said, "no". 

Happy St. Patrick’s Day and Abby's New 'Do

Our annual tradition of watching the Portland St. Patrick’s Day Parade with the Benson’s continues. It was a cold one but we had lots of fun.  It was short parade followed by lunch at Gritty’s.  

Abby’s most awesome hair cut!!!

Abby had been talking about getting a haircut for awhile and we made last minute plans at Snip Its following the parade! She had 8 ½ inches cut off and donated it to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths.  She was so proud of herself and I was so thrilled that she went through with it.  Her cut is so much more manageable and adorable!  I do love her long locks, but this was all her idea.  We just helped execute it.  I recall making up a bed time story the evening before about a 5 year old Abby who had long hair, and her friend Maria who was 6 and was very sick.  Maria had to take strong medication which made her hair fall out and Abby wanted to cut her hair and donate it to help Maria get a wig.  Abby still asks me to tell that story.  I often will take a different twist and have them playing at the playground or go swimming in the lake.  Abby loves those stories and she will smile as I “tell” them.  I truly believe she knows the character Abby’s impact on her friend.
