I Knew We Called her Peanut for a Reason

We met Abby's new pediatrician today and I LOVE her!  She's a fairly new doctor, yet seems very knowledgeable and spunky - my kinda gal.

Abby was in true form bouncing around the office, crawling all around, tearing apart the bed paper, and laughing up a storm.  All at the same time, being still while Dr. Morneault looked at her ears, tried to find the stubborn top teeth, and checked her hips.  She even was quiet as a mouse during the toe prick.  No shots today, but we had a quick toe prick to check for lead.  Unfortunately, my parents live in an old, very old, farm house and most likely has lead paint.  I wanted to check to make sure she hasn't been exposed.  We're good about sweeping and vacuuming, but she is an infant who puts everything in her mouth. Everything.

Here are her stats!
Height: 27 1/2" = 46%
Weight: 15lbs 6oz = 3% (Holy peanut Batman!)
Head circumference:  17.5" = 65%

We're not concerned about her low weight since she's healthy, eating well, and her height is good.  She is just so active, she burns off all the calories she eats!

In other Abby news, she is such a delight.  She is stubborn, independent, and comical.  A flirt who already uses her gummy smile to get what she wants.  Her independence means we're pushing right past jarred food and going right to finger foods.  Her diet consists of carrots, peas, squash, string cheese, bits of turkey and chicken, peaches, blueberries, mango, banana, cheerios, whole wheat and graham crackers, green beans, yogurt, egg yolks, and more.  I think she could eat peas and banana for every meal if I let her. :-)

Here we are at LL Bean, hanging out in the kids section.

Packing Accordingly

We've been pretty lucky that Abby travels well.  She adjusts to new situations, people and places pretty easily.  I don't stress about bringing her anywhere!  She'll fall asleep on the beach, on my lap, in my arms, in her car seat, etc.

So, today we had a lovely day with some girl friends, and Abby met two of her BFF's Acadia and Gabby.  Just five days apart, those two are peanuts!  We had a very busy day playing (with 2 year old JR), laughing, crawling, and exploring and I suspected Abby would sleep on the way home....boy was I wrong.  So, here's a lesson from me to you.  Pack toys accordingly.  For every minute you're in the car, pack one toy and then multiply by 20%.  I did not pack 97 toys for the 97 minute car ride, and not even close to the extra. See, she was entertained for about one minute per toy...rattle, keys, wallet, mum mum wrapper, resuable zippered bag, books, anything in my purse, stuff from the floor, anything...she was not happy.  Oh, and that 20%?  That's for the few tosses that never made it in her lap....The good thing is that clean up is easy.  All 398 items were either on the seats or floor.

Better travel begins with good preparation.....Pack accordingly :-)

Sooo close!

Tim and I were (((this))) close to putting an offer on a house in Scarborough yesterday.  We had the purchase and sales agreement in hand and ready to fill out with our awesome realtor, we had a tree removal guy give us a rough estimate on cleaning up the propery, and we were at the final walk through.  We loved this place, loved the location (2 miles from the marsh), in a great neighborhood, good amount of space, it fit our 20 year plan.  Well, after talking to the seller's broker, which was on the high end of our preapproval, wouldn't have been enough for the bank.  See, it is a short sale and has been on the market since February.

Things happen for a reason.

While we loved the house, the land was less than desirable. On .5 acres, it also had a ton of trees.  Which means not a lot of sunlight, and almost no spot for a garden.  Anyone who knows me knows I'm more excited to have a garden and compost pile than for the big TV Tim wants :-)

A lot can change in a month...I could have a job, the bank might be more lenient, who knows.  If the house is still there, I might be writing a different post!  I have faith the right house will come along.  Until then, we'll keep looking....

Traveling again!

The Proctor's are heading to Vermont today for a quick trip.  While the boss works, the girls are going to play!

Our Cape Cod trip finished up nicely - I feel like it was a very quick vacation, but we managed to get loads of beach time in.  Four of our six full days were spent on different beaches of the National Seashore.  And, I mean full days - like 9am - 5pm days.  Great tans, good food, great naps for Abby, lots of body surfing, eating, reading, relaxing, and eating.  Did I mention eating?  We also had lots of visitors!  Dad P, Gwen, and Erin all made appearances.

We really had a great time and plan on making next year our Third Annual Cape Cod vacation.  We might have to switch up the week since someone is planning a wedding - how dare they!

Toward the end of the trip, Crabby Abby started making her own appearance.  We think more teeth are coming in.  Actually, Crabby Abby continues now...she's getting up more in the night and generally a bit more clingy to Mommy.  I know this is all normal, but I'm excited for Happy Abby to make more appearances than Miss Crabby!

Cape Cod

We're enjoying our summer vacation down in Wellfleet and have had a blast so far.  Three days in a row of pure fun on the beach.  Today we're spending a bit of time at home, enjoying a cup of coffee, or two, before we head to a flea market and Christmas Tree Shop :-)  Chris and Katie are catching some fish on a chartered boating trip.
